How Emergency Dentistry Solves the Dental Problem

April 1, 2022

Dental emergencies usually come knocking when you least expect them, and the next thing you know, you need emergency dentistry in South Lake Tahoe, CA. If you have ever been in a dental emergency before, you probably know how quickly these issues unfold. You can never anticipate a dental emergency.

Since you can never tell when a dental emergency can occur, you might need to anticipate that it might happen. The best thing you can do is be prepared for a dental emergency by identifying where you will go for treatment and having the contacts of our dentist near you.

You must identify where you need to go to receive quality emergency dentistry near you. This is because dental emergencies are time-sensitive issues.

Also, you need to know what constitutes a dental emergency so that you don’t panic and rush to our office only to find that it’s not an emergency.

When Is Dental Pain an Emergency?

Toothaches have a knack for giving people sleepless nights. They range from throbbing to jolting pain that can stop you from enjoying your day. However, how would you know that your toothache is a dental emergency?

Well, the answer depends on several factors. If you have lost a tooth and there’s excessive bleeding, then you will need to rush to our offices for immediate care. Pain is not something you put off and think that it’s normal. If your discomfort never seems to go away, even with pain-relievers, then you will need our emergency dentist to check your tooth.

If you notice that you have a severe toothache, it’s because the tooth pulp is infected or inflamed. The pulp is located at the tooth’s center and is home to the nerves and blood vessels that nourish the tooth. So, whenever the pulp is inflamed, you will be in excruciating pain, especially when food gets stuck in the tooth or you take extremely hot or cold foods and drinks.

Common Dental Problems Related to Emergency Dentistry?

It might be challenging to decipher what a dental emergency is or isn’t when facing one. So, having the proper information can go a long way and can save you a lot of time. Some of the issues that are considered dental emergencies might include:

  • Abscessed Tooth

This has the potential to be life-threatening. If you don’t get the issue checked out by our dentist near you, the infection will spread to the surrounding tissue. This dental issue occurs when decay reaches the pulp. Bacteria get the chance to multiply, and, in turn, they will get to damage the pulp.

This dental issue is usually indicated by persistent toothache, fever, foul breath, and pimples or protrusions on your gums. You might notice that there is a pus-filled pocket on your gums.

If you are experiencing the above, then you will need prompt care. You can use warm salty water to help draw up the pus and then make your way to our office.

  • Knocked-out Tooth

This dental emergency is very time-sensitive. This is because the tooth can be re-inserted in the socket only if you get to our office in under an hour. Failure to do so would mean that the tooth will lose its viability, and our dentist can do nothing to salvage it.

Therefore, pick it up by the crown and not the roots when the tooth is knocked out. Rinse the tooth without touching the roots to remove the dirt. Ensure that you do this gently. Then try and re-insert it, or if you find it difficult, you can place it between your cheeks and gums or in a jar of milk. Then, make your way to our office.

  • Bleeding Tears, Cuts or Lacerations

Soft tissue injuries are also considered dental emergencies simply because they can cause excessive blood loss. If this happens to you, you might need to rinse your mouth using warm water and try as much as possible to stop the bleeding by using gauze. After this, dash to our office.
